The Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area is known as the Home of American Golf, so naturally golf is a major reason why competitors from around the world choose the Sandhills area of North Carolina to determine global champions. Our annual U.S. Kids Golf Teen and World Championships attract more than 2,500 golfers and their support teams from all 50 states and more than two dozen countries every summer, all vying for titles on our world-class courses.

Our destination is synonymous with the U.S. Open Championship and will once again host the event in 2024 at historic Pinehurst Resort on venerable Pinehurst No. 2. The USGA is building a second headquarters here. Golf House Pinehurst will open in 2024, along with the World Golf Hall of Fame.

While golf is in our DNA, a multitude of sporting events can easily be held at several facilities in Moore County, some capable of hosting large scale tournaments with quality indoor and outdoor facilities. The Moore County Sports Complex in Carthage is the centerpiece of our sports tourism industry and is capable of hosting major sports championships from baseball, softball, and soccer to indoor events such as basketball, wrestling, cheerleading and more. Aberdeen is set to open a major six field soccer and lacrosse facility. And Southern Pines has a variety of playing fields that can accommodate a host of outdoor competitions.

When the games are complete, our area features dozens of fine local restaurants showcasing fresh cuisine and favorites for the whole family. Recreational activities abound with parks, hiking and biking trails throughout Moore County. Our area is also rich in history from golf to equestrian pursuits, the arts, and cultural interests.
